New This Week… Minimalist Foiled Prints by Tom Pigeon

This week on Howkapow we’ve released a series of prints which are calm, considered and composed.  New in from Scottish design duo, Tom Pigeon, we have the Harbour Print Series – inspired by harbours around where the couple live on the East coast; as well as the Sol and Luna Series – inspired by 1980s beach parties. All are beautifully foiled and oh so atmospheric… you can shop the Collection here…

Videos We Love… The Bristol Whales

If you’re based in Bristol like us, you may have noticed the Giant Whales taking centre stage in Millennium Square! The amazing wicker sculptures breach from an ‘ocean’ of 70,000 plastic bottles, sharing the importance of tackling marine litter. Amazing stuff!

Curated by Cod Steaks, pushed forth by Artists Project Earth and funded by Arts Council England, The Bristol Whales displays the beauty and delicacy of our oceans and the increasing human threats that they face.

Top Five… Independent Vintage Furniture Upcyclers

We’ve recently been working on our new nursery as well as adding finishing touches to our house in Bristol. Rog spent the good part of a weekend transforming our vintage Ercol Windsor Chairs into something more colourful, and we’re firmly of the belief that if something ain’t broke, there’s no need to fix it… but there’s certainly room to add a fresh new coat of paint or two!

There are some amazing independent designers working their magic upcycling and updating old furniture (particularly mid-century modern) at the moment. Here is my round up of our Top Ten…

1. Humblesticks. The immensely talented husband-and-wife team Richard Holman and Katy Shooter are behind this stylish brand. They renovate and rejuvenate found objects from their cottage in South Wales and their work is simply beautiful – lovingly crafted with quirky accents and patterns. We could have it ALL in our house. Forever.
